How do I find my way around this web site?
All but a few of the materials you will need to choose and complete assignments can be found by clicking/hovering on the tabs along the the top which, in turn, show other tabs to click, depending on what you are looking for. When you hover your mouse over the Communications tab, for example, you will see this:
When you see a tab with a little arrow (>) on it, that means there are more tabs nested or stored within that topic, like so:
In the example above, you can see that hovering on Micro-Courses brings up five new tabs, each with their own tabs inside them. Hovering on the Poetry tab brings up five new options, all within the Poetry topic. You can click on any tab whether or not it has an arrow to find out information about that topic.
Where do I get my assignments?
Most of the assignments are either described right on the screen or incorporate clickable hyperlinks which look like this: hyperlink. Some assignments or evaluation tools may be at the bottom of the screen as a clickable download that you can save to your NSCC student network account or a flash drive (memory stick), or just print off. Here's an example of what a downloadable/printable document link looks like (to download, you would click the text that's highlighted here in yellow):
Is this web site the only way I can get my assignments and stuff?
Yes, but in some cases I will make paper copies of certain components if you prefer. This is one way I am trying to reduce the amount of printing we all do, so the less printing we do, the less paper, ink and energy we use working through the course. Not everyone has access to the Internet 24/7 so, of course, I will see that you have all the information you need in paper form if you would rather have that option. Having everything online can be handy for you if you want to work on something over the weekend but you don't have your papers at home with you. Just open this site, and everything you need will be right there on the screen. You can access this site from any Internet-connected computer at any time. For that matter, you can connect with me at any time via this site or my nscc email -- Shelley.Meisner3@nscc.ca -- because if I see an email from you, no matter what day or time of day, I will respond to you as soon as I can. That's a promise! :)
