As an add-on to your journal writing (or maybe as a way to give yourself a kick in the pants if your personal journaling is going nowhere fast), I am offering up the concept of group writing. I think this could be a phenomenal thing! There are a few ways I'd like to go at it. Maybe we'll try them all, maybe just one. I hope they sound as fun and exciting to you as they do to me!
There are three spiral-bound notebooks on the book display rack near the classroom windows with a sentence or two in them to give the next writer something to go on. Imagine picking up one of these notebooks and reading a few pages of what your fellow classmates have written, then conjuring up a few sentences or paragraphs of your own to continue the story! As shown in the picture to the left, feel free to illustrate the story with a drawing or sketch here and there. I really think we could -- as a group -- come up with some fantastic tales! We could publish them here on this web site or create a Facebook page to show them to our friends and family or maybe even make paper copies to distribute around the campus and beyond. Even if they stay within the covers of the notebook to be seen by our eyes only, the experience of being creative together can only be a positive thing. We could learn a lot from each other. And let's not get hung up on spelling and grammar or even worry about who wrote what. We can be anonymous if we want to, which really makes the story even more of a group effort. I hope you'll join in with all your wild and crazy and funny and inventive ideas!
It's pretty straightforward. There will be a guestbook and you can sign it and make comments every day the mood strikes you. You can comment about how you're feeling, what you liked about class that day, what you did NOT like about class that day, suggestions for making the world a better place... it's up to you.
